When you walk from place to place you may not realize it, but you are actually activating almost every single muscle in your entire body. Muscles are essentially like small engines, in an elementary sort of way.

So even after your exercise, depending on the damage you did to your body, your caloric burn is going to continue. Damaging your body may sound like a bad thing to do, but in fact it is not.
The body thrives on resistance. That is how you will become stronger.
Whatever doesn't kill you makes you better than your friends... or something like that. That may not be how the saying goes, but it is basically what it means.
Now days it is not vitally important to be able to run faster than your neighbors, but you keep fit so that you can impress others, feel good, and stay healthy. That sounds shallow in writing, but there is no reason to be ashamed of exercising for the purpose of impressing others.

Don't worry though, and don't think about it too much. Dwelling on bad thoughts can be as unhealthy as fast food.
To get the most effective exercise out of your jog, you are going to have to speed up the pace. That means instead of a light trot for half an hour, run as fast as you can for 2 minutes.
This is going to tear your muscles to a point beyond recognition... but in a good way. In so doing, it is going to activate caloric burn for up to 48 hours.
