Dumbbells are treated very unfairly. People seem to think that they can only perform one workout: the curl.
This is not the case. That is an absurd thing to say.
These small weights are the most versatile piece of equipment available on the market today. People will try to tell you otherwise, talking about the holistic benefits of a medicine ball.
Here is the thing though, you cannot adjust the weight on a medicine ball, and you sure are not going to want to go around buying an entire new ball every time your workout loses its edge. The adjustable weights are a huge benefit.
Because the weights on dumbbells are adjustable you can work your muscles as hard as you want. This means you can also allow other people that are either stronger than you or not as strong as you try them as well, without any sort of negative repercussion.
That is one thing that these dumbbells have over the medicine ball, the kettle ball, the resistance bands, and even bodyweight exercises. This is probably the most obvious and notable benefit that comes with the dumbbell.
Now apart from adjusting the weight with these you can do a whole slew of different exercises. There are the deltoid exercises, the pectoral exercises, the oblique exercises, the triceps exercises, almost every exercise can be enhanced and hardened with these.
Pectorals are a fun one to work with because a lot of people never really think to use the dumbbells for that. You simple lay on your back and press the dumbbells into the air like you are doing a pushup, but it is reversed (obviously).
This is actually in many ways going to improve your pectoral muscles. By directly impacting targeted muscles through dumbbells exercises you can actually expect to see more defined and specific results.
The pecs are not the only muscle that uncommon dumbbell exercises are used for. There is also the compound squat dumbbell press curl.
It does have a mouthful of a name but that is good because it is pretty much self-explanatory. Simply grab hold of the dumbbells and do a squat, then once you raise out of the squat do a curl, after you have curled pressed the dumbbells into the air.
This is a really great whole body workout, and it can be done by anybody. Dumbbells are as versatile as any other piece of equipment.
