Apples have been around for a long time. Johnny Appleseed is the nickname of a man who went around planting apple trees back around the late 1700's and early 1800's.
Since then, there has been an introduction of many types of apples into the scene. America is known as the place for apple pie, well now the pizza or hot dog is becoming a more American food.
Now, when you think of apples, you think of apple crisp that is hot and with a scoop of ice cream that is melting on top. Apples are being cut up and thrown into salads.
They are dehydrated into slices and sprinkled with cinnamon. They become a nice addition to many main dishes, one of which is in oatmeal. They can also be cut into sticks like French fries for a healthier snack.
Applesauce is a nice treat, but it is also added to baked goods in place of oil. It does the trick for giving the loaf that extra bit of moistness without the health hazards of added oil.
Apples have a special component called pectin, which is great for cleaning out the arteries. It used to be said that an apple a day would keep the doctor away, but now bananas are the new everyday needed fruit.
If you eat a big apple, it can really fill you up. It's watery and full of fiber, both of which have zero calories. You can actually eat the whole apple, everything but the stem.
Eating more apples and less chips can help you lose weight as you cut down on the fat content. Apples have many nutritional parts that have been found to be very helpful for your immune system. The seeds are edible and help you have better eyesight.
One thing that is really fun is to cut the apple sideways with the apple stem on one end and the little blossom pieces at the other end. Cut some round slices that are about a half inch thick.
You will see a little star in the middle, that is where the highest concentration of minerals and vitamins are. You can spread some almond butter on the top of it like a sandwich.
It's a very delicious treat for kids of all ages. You can also cut the slices one fourth inch thick, sprinkle with some cinnamon and dehydrate the slices for a chewy treat.
There are so many types of apples. Some people like the golden delicious apples for their mellow sweet flavor, some people like the Mcintosh apples for their flavorful crunch, while others love the red delicious, fuji, or gala best.
If you are trying to cut back on cost, then try getting the bag with the smallest apples and they will go further on less money. Try to get organic apples so you don't have to peal the outer skin off where the pesticides are.
The granny Smith apples are the most tart and therefore have more nutritional punch to them. They are great cooked into the apple pie or other dessert. They are basically great wherever you want some tartness.
Apples are also known to be great for cleaning your teeth and are sometimes substituted for a good snack to keep your teeth clean. You still have to brush your teeth though.
Have fun trying all of the varieties of apples and deciding which one you like best. Recipes abound, but there is nothing as simple and healthful as just enjoying an apple for the joy of it as it is.
