It's nice to have a snack to munch on while you are working, watching a show, or driving around town. It's important to provide good nutrition for children even for their snacks.
Whether you are a big kid or a little kid, it's good to try to make your snacks more nutritious. If you are careful in all the choices of food and snacks, you can enjoy better health.
Instead of having so many chips and crackers that can be so fattening, why not try some apple slices or chopped vegetables. It just take a minute to prepare them.
They are crunchy too and have some really unique tasty flavors. You can really enjoy sliced cucumber, pieces of cauliflower, sugar snap peas, cut up apples.
It's always easy to just have a banana, orange, or whole carrot or celery stalk. These are highly nutritious sources for snacking that can really be tasty and addicting too.
Sometimes you want something more dry and salty. Using an air popper to make a batch of popcorn can really hit the spot there.
You can use extra-virgin olive or coconut oil in place of the butter. These oils are really good for you and don't have the same astronomical amount of bacteria as the butter would.
So, you have a lot better chance of staying well and not coming down with a cold or flu. Better yet, you could even avoid the oil altogether, especially if you are trying to lose weight and don't need the extra calories.
Trail mixes are always fun for a hike or outdoor activity. The nuts have protein and fat for energy. However, if you want to include trail mixes in your snack list make sure that they contain raw nuts.
The roasted or deep fried nuts have oils that have become rancid and full of free radicals. It's always a better choice to choose the raw nuts. You can even make your own mix.
That way you can have more fresh omega 3 fatty acids. There are also omega 6 and 9 in various raw nuts and seeds. These beneficial oils can be destroyed if they are heated.
Another thing that you may want to consider for your snacking pleasures is to include more fruits. Then, you can eliminate the candy and pastries and still satisfy your sweet tooth.
Fresh fruit is always best though. Cooked fruit tends to become acidic, then the important vitamins and enzymes can be destroyed in the cooking process.
Fruit can be cleansing with all the fiber they contain. You will also benefit from the watery content of fruit instead of grease and oil so abundant in many dessert items.
