The Beef You Eat

Assume you are a man that weighs 170 pounds, that is slightly below average. In one single serving of hamburger beef (about one pound) you are getting around 77 grams of protein, which is enough to support your entire RDA, for protein anyway.

Protein is arguably the most important nutrient. Some people will say that anti-oxidants are more important because they protect your from cancer, or that vitamins and minerals are more important because they support the homeostatic functions of the kidney.

So beef won't do any of those things that actually make your body work properly, but it will provide an excellent amount of sodium to your diet. Probably you thought that hamburger patties were only good for protein, nope they aren't.

From chemistry you should know that sodium is the chemical element with the symbol NA and atomic number 11. Outside of the body sodium is useful in making soaps and other sorts of products.

In the body it does a great deal more than make soap: it regulates blood pressure and blood volume, meaning you are not going to die suddenly for having too much blood in your body because sodium is keeping it in check. Element, atomic number 11, is also going to play an important role in the functioning of nerves and muscles.

Anytime you move or perform locomotion in any way, a network of neurons shoot an electric bolt through nerves which tell your muscles to react and contract. This ability to move your muscles is heavily influenced by your consumption of beef.

So in one pound of beef you get an entire day's worth of protein and a good healthy serving of sodium, enough protein to synthesize and develop muscular enlargement and enough sodium to use the muscles you just made. Those are the two main contributors, but that is not to say there aren't other things.

For example, one serving of beef is going to provide six times more than the RDA (recommended daily amount) advised by the FDA (Food and Drug Association). So next time you feel a craving for something high in iron instead of sauntering into the garden and plucking some dry leafy greens (which do have a lot of iron in them), how about you hop on down to the nearest grocer and pick up some meaty beef patties.

Last but not least, actually it is quite a shocker, beef has a good serving of vitamin C! And you thought vitamin C only came from oranges and grapefruits and pineapples.

Well nope, you can actually get a good amount simply from eating hamburgers. In fact you can get an entire days amount of vitamin C in one homemade hamburger.
