Most people are going to get six times the iron they need in a day in one simple hamburger. If there is one good thing about beef patties it is the exponential and almost ridiculous amount of protein and especially iron that they provide.
However, many vegans and vegetarians are not going to want to eat these greasy abominations because of the disgusting amount of cholesterol. It is almost an even split, the detrimental effects of the high cholesterol almost outweighs the positive effects of all the iron. The problem is when you get iron in excess you cannot use it all, so all the cholesterol is going against you but not all the iron.
This is why vegans and vegetarians usually refrain from fatty meats. Many people think that vegans won't be able to get enough protein from their diet.
That is false; the human body only needs around 70 to 100 grams of protein a day, depending on how big you are. With a few almonds, a little tofu and appropriately selected vegies 100 grams of protein is not a problem.
Now if you are eating meat you can get a good 70 grams in one patty, but the down part is once you go over on your protein intake you start developing fat around muscles rather than more muscle. Your body can really only use 70 to 100 grams of protein.
Not getting that much isn't going to kill you, but you may fill a little fatigued at times and over long periods of insufficient protein intake you may lose some muscle mass. Protein is easy to get there are protein bars all over the place, and you can get wheat protein like nothing.
Iron for many vegans and vegetarians is the hardest nutrient to get, because they simply do not know where to get it. Iron is an integral part of hemoglobin, which serves the body by carrying oxygen through the blood stream by attaching itself to red blood cells.
Anemia is the condition caused by insufficient iron for hemoglobin production. Now this probably sounds like a lot of incomprehensible blabber to you.
In laymen's terms iron, a key nutrient found in leafy greens like spinach, is going to help blood to carry oxygen. When you feel a side ache from walking up the stairs it is because the abdomen doesn't have enough oxygen to comfort it.
When you are light headed from getting up to fast it is because your brain wasn't getting enough oxygen.
