The Different Creatine Formulations

Read 39 times since Friday, December 23, 2011

Creatine supplements are one of the major groups of bodybuilding and performance-enhancer products receiving major raves and hypes because of its proven efficacy and effectiveness. Different formulations exist in the market today and each has its own story to tell and effectiveness to boost. Some are way above the other while some remains a low-profile with usefulness worthy of any. The following are the different varieties:

Monohydrate

Monohydrate is basically bound with water and is considered as the most oldest and common form. Each molecule of monohydrate contains about 88% of creatine and 12% water. Usually comes in micronized form, it needs greater dosage about 5mg to be taken four to five times a day while sugar and loading is likewise necessary for it to be efficient. Throughout the history, monohydrate has been the most studied variety in contrast to other types. Furthermore, in terms of muscle strength and lean gains, this formulation is the most cost-effective. With its water retaining abilities, the muscle cells become super hydrated resulting to a fuller, pumped up muscle feel. Similarly, this supplement form is easily stored within your muscles, making it available anytime when your body needs it. Lastly, what sets this product from its counter prototypes is its cost; it is the least inexpensive but the most efficient.

Ester Ethyl

Ester Ethyl is one of the latest innovations in the supplement industry today. Primarily, it is formed by combining ester (compound formed from the combo of carboxylic acid and alcohol molecule) with that of acid. The theory behind this is that by adding alcohol, this would pervade muscle cell membranes without difficulty; thereby, allowing for a better and quicker absorption compared to other forms further leading to an extra edge in terms of muscle gains. This product is available in powder or pill form and requires less dosage for it to be effectual. Moreover, it neither needs sugar nor loading for it to be efficient. One drawback though is its costly price tag.

Anhydrous

Another form which is similar to monohydrates but more or less equal is the anhydrous form, only this time the water molecule is removed to make the supplement untainted by 6%. Nevertheless, this is actually a downside and monohydrate is still more efficient.

Malate

This supplement is one of the newer forms and is created through a combination with malic acid. Malic acid is a compound involved in the Krebs cycle and is necessary for bouts of energy rush. As a result, athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike can be expected to enjoy longer periods in trainings and workouts owing to the greater energy supply brought by this product. Basically, this is also better dissolved in water and can cause less stomach discomforts. However, few studies have been cited to establish the efficacy of this product.

Phosphate Forms

It has been known that phosphate molecules are needed in order for the conversion of ATPs to take place for energy production to occur, hence the creation of this prototype. Innovators have been expecting that through this product better vigor and power will be created in favor to the athletes and bodybuilders. However, few would recommend this product since monohydrates has been quoted to be more effectual and less expensive in contrast to this supplement.

Citrate

This variety is one of the older forms and is formed by combining the major naturally-occurring component with citric acid. The rationale is that, with citric acid being important for energy production, uniting the two main components would result to greater, more explosive bursts of energy. However, this presumption remains to be a theory as it has never been studied and proven. Although this form is better dissolved in water compared to monohydrates, it is known to deliver 40% less creatine.
