Any time you go into a gym you are going to see a wide variety of different shapes working the machines. Most likely you are going to see some huge behemoth of a male working the free weights, some little pencil neck pushing the butterfly press, and maybe a woman that is the same shape as a pear running on an elliptical.
These are the three types of body there are. The mesomorph is the man at the free weights; these people are going to gain mass quickly, which is ideal for bulking up and looking like a monster.
Mesomorphs have slower metabolisms which has two main effects: one, it allows proteins a longer chance to be synthesized into muscle, and two, it allows them to burn calories more from the food they eat rather than the fat deposits they have. The down side to these mesomorphs is that they are going gain fat fast, so it is imperative that they diet and train to keep off the grease.
The ectomorphs are little guys, these are people with naturally small body types. You have seen those people that can eat an entire elephant and they never seem to gain any weight.
These people have been blessed with a quality that many won't ever know: a metabolism that works like lightening. These people can excrete the ingestions almost just as fast as they can consume them, but this too has its downsides.
People with the ectomorphic body type are going to have a very hard time gaining and keeping weight on. They are also going to have a harder time working to build that muscle.
The reason being is, when you metabolize things quick as lightening you push it through your intestines and then the nutrients that were not filtered out are lost. This means you are going to need a lot of protein and constant exercise to gain muscle.
Secondly because it shoots through the body so fast it is going to be hard to keep your energy up. There is the caloric energy from immediate food in the stomach and intestines, and after you burn through that you have to work off calories from fat, which is much harder.
So they may be skinny but building muscle is no cake walk for them. The endomorphic body type is the big upper body in a man, and a big waist in a woman.
Often endomorphic women look like pears, and endomorphic men look like spin tops that are given as gifts on Hanukkah. These people to fight weight gain in places they don't want it, they need to exercise with lots of cardio.
You may be a mixture of all three or purely just one. Adjust your diet and routines accordingly for best results.
