Today the national pass time is television watching, is this because it is better than other activities or because the proletarian class has settled for less than they deserve? Television is great, but should it consume more time than say walking?
One hour of television burns approximately 60-80 calories, depending on your height, weight, and the television program you are watching. Walking burns more than 300 in an hour, so why do people not walk instead of watch television?
Well there is the informational value that can come from the television. Knowledge is power everybody knows that, it isn't like the people watching television are watching sleazy, stupid pointless TV shows, they are, no doubt, watching some great informational television, perhaps learning of the current situations in Iraq or discovering new information of some submarine life out in the pacific ocean.
Though, you can learn just as well by walking, and using some sort of radio, MP3, or any audio device. If you want to learn a new language get some sort of program that teaches you through some audio recordings and then listen to it as you walk.
In no time you will have learned a new language and walked all the way to the Mexican market. You deserve a churro, which by the way only contains approximately 116 calories, nearly one third of the calories you burned in the hours walk to the market.
Is walking really more effective for learning? The answer is yes.
The increased blood flow by the accelerated heart rate actually promotes more neurological (brain stuff) development. Where sitting in one spot keeps the blood stagnant and does virtually nothing.
Ok, obviously walking is better for your mental and physical health, but is it better for your soul? Are you going to have more fun walking than you would by watching the pretty little liars?
This is a tuff question so you have to refer back to the neurologist. Physical activity actually creates endorphins in the brain, namely serotonin, dopamine, and epinephrine these are just a few but they all promote "happy" feelings.
Watching people lie to each other about high school drama can actually create negative emotions, like anger, frustration, stress and the list continues. So objectively speaking walking is actually going to make your feel much happier than watching silly TV shows about an immature gaggle of girls.
In conclusion, it is the proletarian's responsibility to change the national pass time from watching dumb television shows to something that is a little more locomotive. Perhaps you are not a walker maybe you are a brisk jogger or a runner, they are just sisters of walking.
Like the theater is just an older brother to the television. Get away from the screen and start moving through something a little more real, it is only better in every single way imaginable.
