To a child a body is simply a body, it is a lump of someone who is either older or younger perhaps with some different traits that the child may or may not share. To a physiologist the body is an amazing piece of mechanics that is so complex only billions of years of evolution could create it.
To the artist the body is the paragon of beauty, something so majestic it could have only come from a source so heavenly that it is beyond imagination. The body is amazing, fascinating, and beautiful.
The deeper you delve into understanding the inner workings of the body the more you begin to appreciate the beauty of life. It becomes truly miraculous when you see how the body responds to movement and resistance.
Locomotion: it is what makes a living creature living, it is what moves, it is what propels man forward, and it is purpose toward a goal. With a little locomotion it is possible to move around the globe, it is possible to scale a mountain, it is possible to change your life from everything around you to everything inside of you.
Resistance is the key catalyst to development. Without resistance everyone would simple be a single cell organism incapable of evolving.
The body feeds off of opposition, there is a desire for resistance; this is how the body develops and becomes what it can be. There are many different ways to exercise the body: you can jog, you can jump, you can run, bike, swim, climb, skate, ski, board... and the list goes on; each of these is a pleasurable form of resistance.
Even simply walking provides a certain amount of resistance and locomotion that changes the body. Deep inside the body there are millions of different chemicals constantly acting and reacting upon each other, and what you do greatly effect what these interacting chemicals do.
Every portion of your body needs oxygen, you breathe in through your lungs and the red blood cells pumped through the circulatory system carry the oxygen to every portion of the body. The heart is the circulatory pump that moves the blood through the body, and just like anything else it loves resistance.
Cardiorespiratory exercise is the number one activity recommended by doctors. If you have oxygen in your tissues you cannot get disease, if you have oxygen in your muscles you can move, and if you have oxygen in your brain you can think.
Oxygen is a key component in the substance called ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is basically the electric pulse created within the mitochondria of a cell. This substance sparks every action whether it is in the brain, the nervous system or in the muscles.
