Dealing with the gym takes time and it also takes money. You have to take into account the driving time that it takes to get to the gym, and then the set time that you can afford to get out there, it is just not as effective as working out at your own home.
This doesn't mean you have to invest in an at-home gym, though that would make it easy to beef up. The problem is those are expensive, sometimes more expensive than just paying to go to that gym, which you already decided you didn't want to do.
So what is left? Body weight resistance, you do not have to exercise with anything except your own body.
Simple exercises like pushups, planking, pull ups, squats, crunches, and dips are going hit every single muscle in the entire body. Whenever you work through body weight resistance the whole body is affected and toned.
For example when you walk you have to use around two hundred muscles, out of those two hundred muscles only fifty of them are going to be used to propel you forward the rest are going to be used in maintaining balance. This is why walking and jogging is recommended as the number one cardiorespiratory, whole body workout.
Pushups are going to do the same thing, when you work with machines at the gym you are isolating very specific muscles sometimes only hitting as low as one or two muscles. However doing a simple pushup is going to activate literally every single muscle in the body, of course it will mainly burn your pectorals, triceps, and deltoids.
The main advantage to body weight resistance is the amount of balance that is required with every single exercise. Balance comes from one single place in the body, and that is the core.
The core is composed of the abdominal area of the body, whether you are doing squats or doing pushups you need to hold a strong core to keep yourself from tumbling over. When you work your core through balance you don't actually build muscle, you only tighten the muscle that is there.
That means you are going to be shrinking your waistline and defining your abs. Now isn't that exactly what you have been wanting forever.
Body weight resistance is the most holistically beneficial exercise method on the planet. Not to mention it is totally practical and anybody can do it.
Don't spend tons of money on a gym membership, but just start exercising however you can. Get creative with your exercises to make them more effective.
