Life on earth all sprouts from one thing, water. When the earth was first thrown into orbit around the sun, it landed at just the perfect distance to where all the ice would thaw and become liquid but wouldn't burn away.
If the earth switched places with Venus, moved one planet closer to the sun, all that water would evaporate in a matter of seconds. Conversely if the earth switched places with Mars, one planet farther than the sun all the water would turn to ice and that includes the liquid contents of your carbon life form.
So it is miraculous to think that the earth landed where it did, where the water is in liquid form and can stir different amino acids together day after day like a big stewing pot. Supposing the water wasn't liquid there would have been no way for life to start, because simple organisms would never have been able to propel themselves forward into one another.
Obviously it is apparent that water is probably the number one most important nutrient on the planet. Basically it was the catalyst that allowed for life to develop on the planet, and it is also keeping your body alive and your brain functioning properly.
Even though the world is 70 percent liquid, 97 percent of that is salty sea water, 2 percent is locked in glaciers, leaving a mere 1 percent of that 70 percent actually drinkable, for those of you who do not like decimals that is just .007 percent of the earth that you can drink. That is a fraction of a single percent!
Don't be worried the earth is very, very big and even though only a tiny bit of everything that exists on the earth is actually drinkable, you have to understand in relation to the earth you are not even close to .007 percent of everything. Heck you aren't even close to one billionth of everything that exists on the planet, so by comparison the amount of drinkable water, though it is very little compared to the earth, is still much, much greater than you.
The point is not to make you feel insignificant and worthless, but to help you to understand that you can get all the water you need, and you do need water. Right now with all the water manufacturers and artesian wells water is very much accessible.
However, in the future you may not be able to walk down to the convenient store and buy a bottle of water, perhaps there won't even be running water to your house. These are things you need to be prepared for. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert. She publishes articles for http://www.foodinsurance.com and recommends them for food storage.
