Losing weight is so much easier than you think, but getting clients to understand this is perhaps the most difficult thing I face as a Glasgow personal trainer. All you need to do is stop making excuses about why you are not losing weight. The second you stop doing that and become solutions oriented all the obstacles quickly start to disappear until all that is left is a clear path to your goals. There is only one obstacle to weight loss that cannot be overcome and it is this: "I'm not losing weight because I just can't be bothered". There is not much you can do to help someone with this mindset but every problem has a solution, as long as you can be bothered to find it.
Using an inability to get past problems that can be solved, and most can, to justify your struggles is a clear indication that weight loss is not a big priority. A classic example of this is "I never have time for breakfast". Really, it's impossible to set your alarm to go off 20 minutes earlier to have scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast before you head to work? You can't whisk a couple of eggs in a bowl, cover it with cling film and put in the fridge the night before? Or to make sure the dishes are done so everything you need is at hand and ready to go in the morning? These are the things that people who can be bothered to lose weight do. They make preparations, not excuses.
The other thing that shows indifference to losing weight is blaming everything and anything but yourself for your inability to lose weight. The truth is it's hardly ever other people and other things that are in your way, it is you. You just don't want to admit that you can't be bothered so you deflect the blame elsewhere to avoid looking bad.
Being armed with solutions to issues you face clears the path to successful weight loss, provided you act on them. Sometimes the best thing to do to find the solution to a problem is to ask the question "what would someone else do to make this work?" The answer is the thing you should do to make it work. The only difference between people that lose weight and people that don't is action. Anyone can say they want to lose weight but as always actions speak louder than words and if you really want to accomplish a goal nothing will hold you back.
