Look at your hands and try to imagine the skeleton frame beneath that protein exterior, try to see the muscles that rap around the bones, and try to think about the veins that entwine between the muscles and the bones. Think of the circulatory system (veins in the body) like wiring in a computer.
As long as there isn't any sort of disruption in the wiring or pathway then the complete mechanism will function without problems. However, if there is one wire or vein that is severed then there is going to be problems.

In the body veins transport blood, which may just seem like crimson filling in your carbon life form, but blood provides a very essential service to your overall being. Red blood cells have something called hemoglobin in them, this grabs oxygen and holds onto it in a way that you can't even imagine.

Without oxygen you would die, this is called asphyxiation. So when there is a disruption in the circulatory system then there is a portion of your body that isn't getting enough oxygen.
A lack of oxygen to the brain will result in unconsciousness, brain damage, and then death. Lesser amounts of oxygen deprivation will only cause a slight buzzing feeling in the head also known as light-headedness.
If a muscle was deprived of oxygen for an extended period of time it too would die. The medical term for blockages in the circulatory system is called edema, and it is very serious and it is also more common among old people.
Now that you know how important it is to keep your circulatory system healthy and you have been effectively freaked out by understanding the consequences of bad blood flow, it is time you learned how to fortify your circulatory system and prevent edema.
