Brighton is one of the most active cities in the UK, the seafront, the parks, the downs, the sea, the river the sports centres are alive with people training, getting fit and living life to the full. Whether it's a personal trainer lead Bootcamp or training for the Brighton Marathon, there really is something for everyone. With all of this activity there is a plethora of personal trainers out there offering their services. Some are brilliant, some are barely qualified, some are fresh on the scene but already very skilled and others have been around for a while but aren't necessarily the best in town.
Here's our tips for picking a good personal trainer in a city like Brighton that is packed with talent that is hard to spot amongst the err 'less able ones'.
1. Look at their qualifications and on going training, those with degrees in sports science or physiology already understand a lot more about how the body works than those who havnt put all this effort into gaining knowledge. Look for a good personal training qualification to a high level such as REPS 3 or above and for additional qualifications such as kettle bells or circular strength training.
2. Think about a personal referral, if you know someone who has got the results they want from their personal trainer ( not just got on with) that can be a good place to start.
3. Look at their website , what sort of things do they offer and can they show they have got results. Personal trainers are just that, not marketers, so don't be too over impressed with a flashy website, but expect something smart and professional; this is how they make their living.
4. Do they have access to facilities, do they have the equipment you will need.
5. Make a shortlist and give them a call and have a chat, you will tell a lot in a phone call, do they understand what you want, are you likely to get on with them, afterall you are going to be spending a reasonable amount of time with them 6. Look at how long they have been a personal trainer and whether they are indeed based in the environs of Brighton. Someone who has been personal training for a while will just naturally have a bit more wisdom, plus if they have been successful making their living that way for a while the chances are that this is because they have had lots of work through personal recommendations, this is the main marketing route for successful personal trainers.
