Ulcerative Colitis is not a fun disease. You have to stay close to the bathroom for many bouts of diarrhea daily.
There are many factors that can bring on this condition. For one, you have to be careful about refined sugar and flour.
Highly processed food products can really bring on and aggravate this condition. It's better to stick to the cooked whole grains for good digestion.
Another common cause is the consumption of too many raw fruits and vegetables. Many people have adverse reactions to eating too many of these harder-to-digest produce items.
It helps if you have some healthy, wholesome starches for about half of your dietary intake. While eating a lot of produce is a good way to choose foods that are high in fiber, low in calories and great for weight loss, you need to balance it out with some easier to digest starchy potatoes, beans, brown rice, and winter squash.
Many people choose to juice their vegetables, and this can be very effective for better assimilation, healing, and nutrient-rich drinks. Juicing allows the nutrients of the vegetables, that are so high in vitamins and phyto-nutrients, to be absorbed quickly into the blood stream.
Juicing is also a way to stay young and younger looking longer. But, eating too many raw salads can upset your colon.
Another thing that you need to watch out for is emotional upset. You have to watch your emotions, because they are intricately tied to your digestion.
If you are stressed or angry, you can end up with nervous digestion. It's important to resolve emotional issues and to learn good coping strategies to stay positive and calm.
If you have better feelings before and during your mealtime, you will have much better digestion. So, do whatever you can to be happy and relaxed when eating.
Something else that is extremely important to incorporate if you have ulcerative colitis is to make sure that you are getting a good supply of probiotics. These are the good bacteria that will promote healing.
You can get your probiotics with yogurt or other fermented dairy items like kefir. But, this is not the best choice.
Yogurt usually has sugar and unnatural substances added in that kill the good bacteria. And, the milk sugar in any cultured dairy products is a known cause of prostate and breast cancer.
Try some dairy-free probiotic pills. You can also learn to like the fermented plant-based products that are a lot more healing and easier on your system.
There are many fermented plant foods to choose from including miso, kimchi, tempeh, natto, and apple cider vinegar. Learn about these oriental solutions or try one teaspoon of AC vinegar in your morning cup of water.
You will have more energy if you do the right things for yourself. And, you will save costly medical bills and surgery if you take personal responsibility for your health.
