Running activates more than 240 muscles throughout the body, which all need to burn ATP to create locomotion. Simply using your body is going to produce a certain amount of resistance, and any resistance is going to consequently result in a small amount of pain.
Small amount for some that is, as it turns out women are actually more sensitive to pain. For many years it has been evidently apparent that women suffer from migraines, fibromyalgia, and irritable bow syndrome more than men do.
The research methods used in this study consisted of women constantly complaining about pain. So people got to thinking perhaps it isn't that these women are more prone to migraines that they complain all the time, but perhaps it is because they are just more sensitive to pain.
Now the research actually took some real scientific methods, women and men who had the same disorder - whether it is back injury, arthritis, sinusitis-the results showed that women conclusively complained of more pain. The question is are women actually feeling more pain or are they just complaining more?
Neurological scans show that there is actually more pain being recognized in the brain. Turns out that women are not the only weak people on the planet earth, red heads too are more sensitive to pain just like girls are, and that is a scientific fact.
The gene MC1R that is responsible for creating red pigment in hair is also responsible for creating higher sensitivity in the parietal region of the brain (the area that controls sensations of touch and heat). So what is the point of all this and how does it correlate to fitness?
Well you have to agree that this is all very interesting, turns out that your red headed step sister is going to feel more pain than anyone in the entire earth. Meaning if she has the motivation and the determination to keep fit, heck it is more of a challenge for her.
You see every time you exercise you have to work against resistance and pain; red heads have to work against more just because their brains are genetically programmed to recognize it more. Women are also going to have a hard time working against the pain.
The moral here, do not be a girl (or a red head) about exercising. Have you ever wondered why you do not see any professional cage fighters that are red heads- well, now you know.
Conclusion: do not be a girl or red head. If you are a red head or a girl or both, then more power to you and try your best. Destry Masterson is an author who has written hundreds of articles. She publishes articles for http://www.nordictrack.com and recommends them for treadmills.
