But there certainly precautions that must be taken and considered before an individual is allowed to undergo such procedure.

It is not only due the physical well being that is being checked-up but also the emotional and mental state of the person. Doctors deliberate a patient's success rate based on the body mass index pre-surgery. Severely Obese - BMI from 35 to 39.9
Morbidly Obese - BMI 40 and above

Failure of traditional weight-loss methods:

But not only that, they have to keep in mind that they have make alteration on major aspects of their life. The patient should be well-informed that successful weight loss will be seen but not instantly it will require an ample amount of time. And through a series of well-maintained diet and exercise will they achieve the maximal benefit of the procedure. After the surgery a series of follow-ups and meetings with health care professional is a must. This is to ensure that the patient is taking care and being taking cared of by their support network. Weight loss surgery does not end when you walk out the hospital. It is still a long journey to a healthier body.
