Do You Really Need A Diet To Lose Weight?

Read 62 times since Wednesday, March 03, 2010

Dieting is kind of a dirty word. Many people have it in their mind that they will be starving themselves and going without their favorite foods. The term "diet" signifies a temporary period in your life that allows you to lose weight and then you can go back to living your life and most people know that it doesn't work that way. And if you do get the weight off and you go back to old habits, you will most likely end up back at your old weight.

If you want to lose weight and don't know where to start, start by making small changes. If you begin by trying to eat 5 fruits and vegetables per day, this will be a good beginning. If you find 5 vegetables difficult, start with 4 servings of this food group. There is a good chance if you add healthy foods, it will be easier to eliminate or reduce the unhealthy foods. The benefit with this is two-fold. You will be adding healthy items and reducing less healthy items.

Try increasing your water consumption until you are drinking 64 ounces per day. Most of us do not drink near this amount in a day and it you can add one 8 ounce glass to your daily consumption each week; you will soon be at the 64 ounce requirement. Drinking water helps keep you full and can help you keep from eating when you are not really hungry. Then there are all the benefits you will have from keeping your body hydrated.

Start walking. Begin by taking a 20 minute walk 3 times each week. If walking does not appeal to you, select a physical activity that does and participate in it 1 hour each week. Many people that hate exercise are finding the Wii Fit offers workouts that are fun and I understand that they can be quite challenging. Find something you enjoy and get moving. Physical fitness should be a progression, but you have to get started before you can progress.

Educate yourself on being healthy. Read magazines and books. The library is a great free resource for these items. Not only will reading books and magazines educate you on your healthy and well being, reading will also keep you mentally strong. Do you need lose weight? Don't go on a diet. Make small changes that are going to benefit your overall health and you will soon see the pounds will begin to drop off.
